Books For Kids The program developed from the belief of the HOPE/Shalom board that a love of reading is one of the most important characteristics that can help a child to succeed in life. The purpose of the library is to promote reading in a neighborhood where books are absent from many homes. Children will be encouraged to read for fun and to occasionally take home books to treasure. The newly renovated library, that opened June 17, 2008, is a bright, cheery inviting room with a stack of beanbag chairs and an old-fashioned iron bathtub full of pillows to entice children to stay and read. Based on the philosophy that all children should have books of their own in their home to treasure and to read over and over and that better reading skills can be the key to a brighter future. The library has over 1800 books with 300 more on the way, so we will be able to continue giving books to children for a long time. Many thanks to the CH Foundation and many others who gave time and money to make the program possible.
