Shalom Kids/Shalom Readers

Esther Moses coordinates Shalom Readers, our after school program, which is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 pm during the school year.  Homework assistance, tutoring and a variety of enrichment opportunities are offered for the students of Dupre Elementary School.  When the students first arrive, they get a nutritious snack.  Before they leave, they have a complete nutritious meal that is supplied by the Kids Cafe, a program of the South Plains Food Bank.   The Kid’s Café also educates the children education about choosing healthy foods.  A wide variety of educational and enrichment opportunities are provided in the building and in the community in cooperation with other community agencies such as the TTU museum.  Activities and breakfast and lunch programs continue through the summer, helping to improve the nutrition of children in the community when school lunches are not available.  A reading incentive program and other enrichment programs also continue to be offered in the summer.

The program is always glad to have volunteers, especially those interested in providing individual tutoring) and is in need of educational board games.
