Young at Art The Lubbock Sketch Club and William Terrill lead this ministry which teaches art skills to children of the neighborhood, who otherwise have little exposure to the joy of creativity and the beauty of art. Classes are offered after school Wednesday. Under the leadership of William Terrill, the room set aside for children’s art has been painted and a mural with inspirational messages adorns the walls. William, Brandon Adkins, and Meranda and Lucas Puryear will lead the art education program on Wednesdays after school. Their mission is to help children get excited about creating art and to support them as they develop in skill as well as instilling values of striving to do their best and to dedication to their life’s choices. William and Brandon will offer children the opportunity to learn cartooning. The Sketch Club will also be using a room to allow artist members to practice sketching models and setting up displays of their art in the gallery that Sam Ayres originally remodeled. Here is what William Terrill has to say. “Based on the formula we've established with our Sketch nights we will be drawing as a group, and teaching young artists to fall in love with the process of learning to draw. Over the next year we will gradually introduce drawing fundamentals classes and art technique classes to the program. Our long term goal with the Sketch Club is to make Lubbock and the world a better place and help artists live up to their fullest potential - this starts by reaching out to the community through programs like this and providing opportunities and resources for kids, giving them access to mentors and professional techniques, and then the venues to become successful using that." |
